Caring For Your Fresh Flowers

You can prolong the life of you beautiful flowers and get the most enjoyment out of them just by doing a few simple things. If you are fortunate to get flowers regularly you need to invest $2.00 and buy yourself a plastic misting bottle. Just misting your fresh flowers from time to time really helps.

For cut flowers there are two main things you can do to help them. One is to use the plant food provided with your delivery. Follow the directions on the package.

Trimming the stems a 1/2 inch every couple of days is very necessary to allow your flowers to keep obsorbing the water they are in. The more of a slant you give your cut the better. If the water is murky you should change it.

Always keep your flowers away from the sunlight and heat. Never leave them in a hot car. You would be surprised how many people do this and cannot understand why their flowers are dead when then arrive home.

Never put your flowers near a fan or draft!

For wedding flowers such as bouquets or even a haku. The best thing is to keep them cool when possible and mist often.

If you put any flowers in a refrigerator be sure the temperature is above 40 degrees and always place tissue paper over them if they are not in a plastic container.

Just follow these few simple rules and you will reap the benefits!

What is floral food and why use it?
Floral food is a combination of additives that help to nourish the flowers and discourage bacteria from growing in the water. It is one of the best—and easiest—ways to extend the life of your flowers. It is very important to follow the directions on the package correctly. Improperly mixed floral food can do more harm than good.
